Chris Cannon, who seeks Rep. Bill Orton's 3rd District seat, says a Deseret News article showing Orton with the lowest "batting average" on his bills of the five-member Utah delegation, shows Orton should be replaced by voters.
"In 1990, when he first announced for Congress, Orton criticized then-Rep. Howard Nielson as someone who "hasn't been effective in getting things done, partly because he is in the minority in Congress. It's time we send someone to Washington who can get something done for the 3rd District."'It's time Orton is held to his own standard, says Cannon. According to the Deseret News calculation, Orton was only four of 18 in 1995-96. That's a .222 batting average. "With that average, Orton should be on the bench and not in Congress," said Cannon.
