Utah hosts Y. tonight in women's volleyball
After breaking through with a victory over BYU last year, the Utah women's volleyball team will try to do it again when they meet the Cougars tonight at Crimson Court.
A large crowd is expected for the 7 o'clock game, which may have important implications in the seedings for next month's WAC tournament in Las Vegas.
BYU comes into the match with 10 straight wins and a 7-1 record in the WAC Mountain Division after a slow start. The Utes are 5-3 after losing at New Mexico Saturday night and 14-8 overall. Before that, they had won five straight after opening WAC play with losses to No. 1-ranked Hawaii and to BYU in Provo.
Last year, the Utes beat BYU for the first time since 1985, winning at home quite convincingly, 15-10, 15-6 and 15-9.
BYU is led by Amy Steele, Gale Johnson and Helen Hjorth, while the Utes count on Brenda Barton, Sara Shakula and Maria Moen.
BYU soccer team nationally ranked
For the first time this season, the BYU women's soccer team has been recognized by the national rankings, debuting at No. 20 in the NSCAA Umbro Select Top 25 after defeating WAC foe Hawaii Saturday night.
The 7-0 shutout over the Rainbow Wahine brought the Cougars' record to 17-1 and 4-1 in the WAC.
BYU tied San Diego State for first place in the Pacific Division with a 4-1 record, but since the Cougars beat the Aztecs this past Thursday, they'll host the championships in Provo.
BYU will face off against Air Force, the Mountain Division's fourth-place team, in the first round on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
