Horace J. Ritchie, 89, died Tuesday, October 22, 1996, in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born July 5, l907, in Charleston, Utah, to John M. and Sarah Wright Ritchie. Horace had eight brothers and sisters. He married Arvilla Wootton September 21, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Heber City and Roosevelt, Utah before moving to San Francisco. Subsequently they lived in San Jose and Oakland, California. In recent years, they lived in Orem and St George, Utah before moving to Mesa, Arizona.Horace's life is defined by his great love of people, especially his family. His commitment to the Lord and the Church is reflected in service as bishop in Roosevelt, Utah and San Francisco. He served as Stake President in San Jose, California, as a patriarch, and as a member of the Oakland Temple Presidency. He served a mission in the Samoan Islands.
He is survived by his wife, Arvilla, of Mesa; two sons, J. Bonner (Lois) of Provo; and Russell H. (Mary Ann) of Mesa; a sister, Relva (Vern) Price of Heber City, Utah; ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held in the Charleston Ward October 26, 1996. Burial, Midway Cemetery.
