In 1946, George Burns told Harold Russell, "You've done for the handicapped in this nation what I have done for the senior citizens."
Fifty years later, the Oscar-winning actor is again being recognized for his accomplishments.Russell, who lost both hands handling explosives in World War II, was honored for his lifelong work to help people with disabilities. Nauset Inc., a social service agency based in Hyannis, Mass., gave Russell the award at the group's annual meeting Tuesday.
"This symbolizes a very important thing that we in America are finally beginning to realize - disability does not mean inability," said Russell, who lives in Hyannis.
