The Dole campaign pulled an ad critical of President Clinton's statements about Republican Medicare proposals after protests from the American Association of Retired Persons.

The spot attacked Clinton for "false political ads that try to scare seniors," using a letter from the AARP that called for an end to partisan bickering over the issue. But the ad failed to point out that the AARP also has said the GOP plan would have affected the program's quality and accessibility, and the AARP was angered that it was being used for a partisan broadside.

"AARP had raised some concerns with the Dole campaign, and out of respect for their position, we withdrew the ad," said Dole spokeswoman Christina Martin.
