Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Jay Norwood Thomas, age 80, passed away October 28, 1996, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a stroke.

Jay was born February 21, 1916, in Vernal, Utah, the son of Norwood Washington and Chloe Agnes Hislop Thomas. He married Grace Pratt on March 5, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. An avid family man who dearly loved his family to whom he devoted his life.He served his country for four years in World War II. Achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, as a crew chief of the 443rd Squadron in the 320th Bomb Group. Retired from Stauffer Chemical, as a heavy duty mechanic.

Active High Priest in the LDS Church. Temple worker for 13 years. Served a Family History Mission with his wife at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. An outstanding scoutmaster.

Survivors include his wife, Grace, three sons and two daughters, Brent P. Thomas (Wilma), Pleasanton, CA; Colleen Sorenson (R. John), Tooele, Utah; Mark J. Thomas (Barbara), Benicia, Calif.; Don R. Thomas (Helen), Bountiful, Utah; Carol Nye (D. Andre), Malta, Idaho; 27 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mazie Sansom (Ralph) Richland, Wash.; Beulah Wilbur, Salt Lake. Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rupert, Keith, and Frank.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 1, 1996, 11 a.m., at the Holladay 2nd Ward, 2065 East 4675 South. Friends may call Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
