Grace Louise Walz Jackson passed away October 29, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born November 28, 1906 in Burton, Idaho to Conrad and Lena Wieter Walz. She married Thomas M. Jackson on March 31, 1957 in New York City. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1975.Grace attended schools in Burton and Rexburg, Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Ricks College in Rexburg. She later completed a Master's degree at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City. While there, she was invited to become a member of Pi Lambda Theta, national organization for women in education, and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Her undergraduate work was at San Francisco State College, Utah State University, and the University of Utah. She spent a lifetime of activity in education as a school teacher and principal in Idaho, Utah, and Germany.
For two years she was with the U.S. Army Dependent Schools in Germany where she served as an elementary school teacher in Frankfurt, and assisting principal in Stuttgart. After 36 years she retired, having served 15 years as principal, the last being at Edison, Indian Hills, and Onequa Elementary Schools.
Grace was a cultured woman who enjoyed theater and The Arts. Throughout her lifetime she was prominent in many professional and civic organizations including chapter vice-president, treasurer, program and social chairman in Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta Chapter; Alpha Theta State as co-chairman of the 1975 State Convention; Scholarship Committee Chairman, Woman-of-the-Year Award Committee, and Committee Chairman for the International Southwest Regional Conference. A ctive in Zonta International Service Club, Salt Lake area, as vice-president and president, as well as many committee assignments. She was a delegate to the Women's State Legislative Council of Utah and the Salt Lake Council of Women for several years. She received the Distinguished Emeritus Award from Ricks College in 1980.
Graveside Services will be Friday, November 1, at 1 p.m. in the Rexburg City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Thursday evening, 6 to 7 p.m.
