Utahns who want to get involved with luge, a sledding sport that's part of the 2002 Winter Games, can sign up for several upcoming clinics sponsored by the United States Luge Association.

A four-day coaching clinic is scheduled for Nov. 14-17, at the Olympia Hotel in Park City. Participants will learn first aid, sports psychology, weight training, nutrition and sled maintenance.The clinic is intended for people with little or no background in either coaching or luge, to prepare them to help with youth programs planned for the state's bobsled and luge track near Park City.

The cost of the coaching clinic is $25, and participants must also join the luge association for a fee of $40. The deadline for registering is Nov. 7.

A two-day national officials course is being offered Dec. 7-8. The course covers the basic rules of luge racing and is the first of two steps to becoming an international luge official during the 2002 Olympics.
