Hundreds of people in Siberia and the Russian Far East are suffering from hepatitis after drinking contaminated water, the emergencies' ministry said on Wednesday.

"So far we have 438 cases of the disease, which was caused by drinking bad tap water or failing to boil or disinfect water well enough," ministry spokeswoman Tatyana Timoshenkova said. There have been no deaths.She said the epidemic started at the beginning of October, adding that people were still being sent to hospitals despite measures to counter the spread of the disease.
