Rosa Hartford says she was showing compassion by driving a pregnant 13-year-old across state lines to avoid Pennsylvania abortion laws.

A jury disagreed Tuesday, convicting Hartford of interfering with the custody of a minor for driving her 60 miles from this rural northeastern Pennsylvania town to a Binghamton, N.Y., abortion clinic.Hartford, whose 19-year-old stepson had impregnated the girl, faces up to seven years in prison. Sentencing was set for December.
