MEN'S TENNIS: BYU advanced in both the singles and doubles tournaments Wednesday at the Rolex Region VII ITA Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
In singles action, eighth-seeded Boris Bosnjakovic and 10th-seeded Manuel Calvo advanced to the quarterfinals. Bosnjakovic defeated Pete Bowman of UNLV 6-1, 6-0 in the first round, before knocking off his second round opponent Ben Coates of Utah 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Calvo had an easy time with Boise State's Steve Vozen in the first round (6-2, 6-2), followed by a 6-4, 6-2 thumping of Fresno State's Phil King in the second round.
BYU's Kris Rosander, Jason Hardin and Kengo Usui suffered second-round losses, while Carter Chow, Brad McIntosh, Benji Rideout, Roman Meyerhans and Mark Watkins were knocked out early in the first round. Each will move to the back draw in the double elimination tournament.
In doubles action, three of BYU's five teams advanced to the second round. The fifth seeded duo of Bosnjakovic and Calvo had a first-round bye, while the team of Rosander and Usui advanced passed Montana State's Lucas Buxton and Dean Owen 6-3, 6-4. The Cougar team of Hardin and McIntosh also advanced after defeating Konrad Lowhagen and Herman Ten Have of Northern Arizona 6-3, 6-4.
WOMEN'S GOLF: BYU ended its fall finishing seventh out of 19 teams at the Diet Coke/Roadrunner Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Wednesday.
The Cougars third-round score of 306 was the second-best team total on the day. BYU ended the three-day tournament with a score of 964. Texas A&M won with a 940 score.
Every Cougar golfer shot their lowest round of the tournament on Wednesday. Only two strokes separated the top three BYU golfers, with Catalina Navarro in a tie for 16th individually (84-79-75, 238), Susanne Gillemo in a tie for 20th (82-81-76, 239) and Jamie Stevenson in a tie for 23rd (84-78-78, 240).

SWIMMING: BYU's women's and men's swimming and diving teams take to the pool against Utah for a dual meet 6 p.m. Friday. The meet will be held at the BYU Richards Building Pool; admission is free.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Utah opens its season by hosting the University of Utah Invitational Tournament Thursday.
The eight teams the Utes match up against include: Washington State, Colorado, Colorado State, SMU, Boise State, Weber State, Montana State, and Brigham Young.
The tournament runs through Saturday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Weber State finished 16th out of 19 teams at the San Diego State Aldila Classic. The Wildcats had a 1,036 team score; Southern Cal won with a 939 total.
Aimee Aardema was WSU's top individual, with her 248 three-day total good for 38th place.
