FORSYTH OPEN - Anglers interested in catching splake and brown-bow trout in Forsyth Reservoir may do so, thanks to an emergency amendment to the 1996 Utah Fishing Regulations.
The emergency amendment opens the reservoir to fishing and allows anglers to catch up to 16 trout, effective through Dec. 31.
The reservoir has been closed to fishing, to allow fingerling splake and brown-bow trout to reach an acceptable size before reopening it in 1997. Valentine signed the amendment to allow anglers a chance to catch these unique hybrid trout before the reservoir is drained for needed dam repairs.
While the reservoir is open to fishing through Dec. 31, anglers are encouraged to visit the reservoir by Nov. 1, said Tom Pettengill, Division sport fisheries coordinator. Water users began draining the reservoir Oct. 18 and by Nov. 1, most of the water will be gone. Forsyth Reservoir is 10 miles northeast of Loa.
