I was wondering who the pinheads in state government might be that came up with the proposed flat tax for vehicles. I'm sure that everyone hates to pay taxes, but at least the present system is fair. Those who have the money to buy newer vehicles are taxed more, and those who are poor, young or on a fixed income pay less on their older vehicles.
The proposed flat tax would discriminate against a foreign car owner, an older car owner, those with large families who need a van, and those people who prefer a pickup rather than a car. The argument that all vehicles using Utah roads should pay the same tax is baloney. It's not a road building and repair tax that we pay on vehicles, it's a personal property tax and always will be.Gary Slate
