CLINTON TO BLAME FOR ORTON LOSS

SHARE CLINTON TO BLAME FOR ORTON LOSS

Elections are a curious thing. There always has to be a winner and a loser. You learn a lot more about a person when he loses than when he wins. You know, I've always liked Bill Orton.

But Bill Orton is a poor loser. With all the labor support from the East, the franking privilege, his incumbency and Newt Gingrich to kick around, all Bill seems to want to do is whine about Chris Cannon's spending a few extra of his own dollars to get elected. How is it that when a Republican spends money to get his message out, there is something dirty about the money used, but if it comes from the union bosses, from party headquarters or from government, that's terrific because that's the people's money.Chris Cannon didn't defeat Bill Orton. Bill Clinton did. If the highest-ranking official in the land, who is a Democrat, didn't have enough courtesy or respect to call for Bill Orton's advice and support concerning one of the most important issues involving Utah's future, I would say that Orton was not a very effective congressman after all.

Orton, you had your chance, and you lost. You really should be spending your energy whining about the real problem, Bill Clinton's management style, because this is the real issue, isn't it?
