An explosion at a shoe store nearly destroyed a six-story building Thursday, killing at least 15 people and injuring 25. Authorities said leaking natural gas may have been the cause.

The explosion left a tangle of concrete and steel beams, spraying debris into a street and shattering glass windows in nearby buildings and cars.Police Chief Pedro Toledo said a natural gas leak may have been the cause of the blast at the Humberto Vidal shoe store in Rio Piedras, a residential and shopping district in San Juan.
