To mark what would be her grandmother's 100th birthday Nov. 14, Susan Eisenhower, author of the forthcoming "Mrs. Ike: Memories and Reflections on the Life of Mamie Eisenhower" (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, $25), told the Washington Post her grandparents had a roller-coaster relationship.
"He was one of seven boys and she was one of four girls," said Eisenhower. "Sometimes things were not so good, and sometimes they were almost electric."She uncovered a 1943 letter written by Ike to be sent to his wife if he were killed, addressed to "Darling Girl" and signed, "Your Lover for All These Years."
