The day before, Peterson was shot in the hand by a burglar he surprised in his West Valley home.Fearing for his life, Peterson wrestled the suspect and tried to take the weapon from him, said West Valley Police Lt. Guy B. Dodge. Peterson was shot in the left hand during the struggle but was able to get the handgun away from the suspect.

The burglar fled on foot. Less than two hours later, police arrested a 19-year-old man. Police are also investigating several other Friday burglaries the suspect may have been involved in, Dodge said.
