A 7-year-old girl was killed and at least 18 people were injured Friday when tornadoes and severe thunderstorms swept through Georgia, officials said.

The girl was killed when a tornado touched down near Chester in south-central Georgia and strong winds lifted up the family's mobile home. Her parents and two other children were injured, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency said.GEMA spokesman Ken Davis said there was "extensive damage" to nine businesses in a Cleveland, Ga., shopping center. Twelve people suffered minor injuries from an apparent tornado in north Georgia, although most of the injuries did not require hospitalization.
