A Utah mayor's music will be performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Feb. 23.

Phillip Kent Bimstein, mayor of Springdale, Washington County, located at the entrance of Zion National Park, will have a composition, "Dark Winds Rising," performed as part of the Kennedy Center's 25th anniversary celebration. The "alternative classical" work will be performed by the Sierra Winds, which includes a wind quintet and taped voices of the Kaibab Paiute tribe of northern Arizona.

Bimstein said the music expresses the feelings and values of the tribe in its own words and voices.

The music's world premiere came in 1992 by the Turtle Island String Quartet in Salt Lake City.
