BASEBALL: BYU tallied 14 hits - eight of them for extra bases - and Scott Haws and Micah Mangrum combined for a five-hitter as the Cougars won their third straight with a 9-1 victory Friday at Southern Utah.
With the win, BYU improved to 3-2 while SUU dropped to 1-7 with the loss.

BASEBALL: A three-run third inning provided enough runs as Utah posted at 5-2 victory over British Columbia in a weekend tournament at San Diego State.
The Utes managed only three hits in the game but used walks, an error and a passed ball to put runs across the plate. Curtis Hall and Michael Heidemann had RBI sacrifice flies in the third for the U.
WOMEN'S SOFTBALL: SUU split a doubleheader with Mesa State College, winning 4-3 in the first game before dropping the second 8-4 Friday afternoon.
The T-Birds, now 3-1 overall, won the first game in the ninth as Cami Niko hit a triple and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Sherie Holmes picked up her second win of the season.
In the second game, Mesa scored four runs in the sixth, capitalizing on two SUU errors.
SUU's starting centerfielder, Tari Fowler, broke two bones in her right arm while attempting to slide into home plate in Thursday's game. She underwent surgery Thursday day and is not expected to return this season.
