SHARE WASATCH CLINCHES CROWN WITH REGION 10 VICTORY

Climbing ahead with a lead as large as 15 points against Union, second-ranked Wasatch locked the girls' Region 10 crown outright with a 55-52 win Friday night on the road. The defeat of the Cougars kept Wasatch at a perfect 7-0 record in region play.

Union, now 5-2 in region, suffered both its league season losses at the hands of the Wasps, who were led by Heather Broadhead's 15 points. Sophomore Tasha Widdison stepped up with 10 more points to keep Wasatch up for good.Jenny Werry helped stage the Cougar comeback with 14 points on the night and Sarah Colton added 12 points to her seven rebounds.

In other action Friday:

Region 1

Layton 44, Roy 36: Shelly Harmer finished with 12 points for the Lancers to lead a win over the Royals. Roy's Katie Hotchkiss led all scorers with 13 points.

Clearfield 39, Northridge 22: Heather Johnson fueled the Falcons with 16 points and 14 rebounds to punish the hosting Knights. Clearfield soared out to a 18-0 lead in the opening period.

Fremont 55, Weber 31: Amber Russell unloaded a career-high 20 points to take down the Warriors. Fremont sustained a 24-2 run in the first half to put it away. Weber was led by Moe Clark with 11.

Region 3

Copper Hills 64, Granger 54: Dedre Knudsen pushed the Grizzlies to a road win over the Lancers with 17 points. Granger's Louie Hope led all scorers with 22 points.

Kearns 53, Hunter 29: Jelena Alba fired up the Cougars with 18 points to lead the win. Kearns held the Wolverines to 12 first-half points. Heidi Allen chipped in 12 more for Kearns.

Taylorsville 56, West Jordan 36: Lindsay Sodja sank 20 points for the Warriors to help take the Jaguars on their home court. Taylorsville vaulted to 8-2 in region play.

Region 6/7

East 40, West 31: East's Charlotte Norman led a low-scoring contest with 12 points. The Leopards improved to 17-2 in region play with the victory.

Judge 70, Granite 36: The Bulldogs attacked early with a 24-12 first-quarter lead and never turned back. Jen Sticinski led Judge with 16 and sister Katie followed with 15. Granite's Natalie Glick had 11 rebounds.

Murray 60, Cyprus 53: Natalie Webb finished with 16 points for the hosting Spartans to put away Cyprus. Katrena Ellett led the Pirate scoring with 18 points for the game high.

Olympus 63, Tooele 36: Led by the Titan duo of Kristi Fehr with 17 and Ashley Miller with 18, Olympus quickly buried the Buffs on offense to improve to 14-2 in region play. Tooele is 7-8.

Region 10

Lehi 54, Park City 33: Jana Fullmer scored 15 points along with Cyd Revill's 13 to boost the Pioneers to a third region win. Melissa Earnshaw hit 12 points for the Miners in a road loss.

Region 13

Beaver 85, San Juan 40: Makenzie Gillins stacked up 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Beavers notched a 7-1 region record. Kristen Marchant of Beaver and Arin Shumway of San Juan also scored 17 each.
