Thanks so much for allowing me to attend this year's "Jazz-O-Rama" at the Delta Center sponsored by the Deseret Newspaper in Education.
I came away from the workshop thrilled to be a teacher and excited to try some of the new strategies.I teach at the Utah School for the Deaf. My students have spent most of their school years being different from their peers. They speak a different language, they have different teachers, they have separate classrooms and, usually, they even use different books. Now that we are using the newspaper for parts of our curriculum, my students are able to realize that they aren't so different from everyone else. They can think, socialize and interact with their peers; now they can even read and use the same materials as their parents.
Thanks for giving me some great ideas and making me proud to be a teacher in Utah.
