Lawmakers are going to get a pay raise next year.

The House GOP caucus has voted to support a pay raise from $85 a day to $100 a day.Legislators haven't had a raise in five years. The raise won't take effect until the 1997 Legislature, so all House members and half the Senate will stand for election this year after voting for the pay increase. In effect, leaders say, voters will approve the pay raise by re-electing those who voted for it.

House Republicans also agreed to give Gov. Mike Leavitt and other state elected officials and judges 4 percent pay raises starting July 1.
