You can imagine my shock upon returning from the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., to discover that several Utah school districts scheduled snow make-up days on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.
Many of our children, who take pride in their perfect attendance at school, were marginalized by this unfortunate decision. Jewish faculty members have complained to me vociferously at the synagogue. Several of our members, with a touch of bitterness, suggest that Sunday might be a choice. The Salt Lake Jewish Community asks that you look for an alternative solution in the future.
