The International Olympic Committee secretary general, recently named to the coordinating commission for the 2002 Winter Games, experienced firsthand this week how nasty the roads along the Wasatch Front can get during a snowstorm.

Francoise Zweifel was being driven from Deer Valley on Monday morning when the car hit a patch of black ice, according to Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee spokesman Mike Korologos."The car just slipped into the guardrail. It scratched the paint. There were no injuries, no hospitals," Korologos said. The car, driven by a committee staffer, was going only about 5 mph, he said.
