The condition of a Solitude ski patrolman buried in an avalanche Friday has been upgraded to critical but stable, a hospital spokeswoman Saturday afternoon.

Jeff Brewer, 36, from Salt Lake City, was buried after he and three other avalanche-control patrol members set off explosives to trigger an avalanche in the Honeycomb Canyon area Friday afternoon. He was buried with a foot of snow over his head for 16 minutes. Brewer, who has been with Solitude for about three years, suffered hypothermia over most of his body.
