Taylorsville High teacher Leah Spencer "rests" on a table as NASA-Ames spokesman Donald Scott, far right, explains an experiment in which the subject lies on a tilted table to simulate the effect of weightlessness on blood flow. Scott participated in research in which he was in the prone position for 30 days. The demonstration was part of a teachers workshop Saturday at Silver Hills Elementary School in West Valley City. Silver Hills teacher Patricia Bown, who accompanied scientists last summer in a special NASA aircraft observatory to look at the stars, spoke to teachers during the one-day workshop on space and science. Tom Sharpe, a teacher at Brockbank Junior High School in Magna, also flew with Bown aboard the Kuiper Airborne Observatory last July. Sharpe spoke about his experiences last week.
