It's time to look toward the March Recipe Exchange. This one has a bit of a twist - this time around, we're teaming up with the Deseret News' Newspaper In Education Department for No Books Day.
Send in your favorite cookie recipes, and instead of the usual method of testing the goodies, we'll distribute your entries to a salivating panel of four elementary students and four secondary students. The kids will test your entries and return their favorites to us to ultimately pick the winners. Of course, the magnanimous $10 prize award still exists.Deadline for mailing us your recipes for those sweet, flat "little cakes" (that's how they got their name . . . from the Dutch word koekje) is Friday, Feb. 16. Please send them in right away as we need to distribute your family-secret cookie instructions to the voracious student helpers.
Here's the drill:
1. Submit one cookie recipe per sheet of paper, limit three per household.
2. Send entries to :
Deseret News Recipe Exchange
P.O. Box 1257
Salt Lake City, UT 84110
3. We MUST have your entries in our office by Feb. 16.
4. If twin cookie recipes are received, we'll consider the one with the earliest postmark.
5. Recipes chosen for publication will become virtually famous throughout the state of Utah. They will appear in the March 5 Deseret News Food Extra, which will be used as the source of light and knowledge on "No Books Day" in schools throughout the state.
