Gordon Humphreys Smith, 72, died February 5, 1996 of a sudden heart attack.

Born February 27, 1923 to Frank L. and Pauline Humphreys Smith in Dolores, Colorado, where he was raised and completed high school in 1941. He served four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged as a 1st Sgt. in 1945. He met his sweetheart, Mary Beatrice Henderson, while training in Georgia and they were married January 23, 1945. They moved to Salt Lake where Gordon was employed by Chevron Oil until his retirement in 1983. He and Bea spent 40 happy years together until her passing on October 19, 1985.He loved to spend time with his family, fishing, traveling, reading, playing cards and working puzzles.

Survived by son, Deano (Ella), Ann Arbor, Mich.; daughter, Sulyn (Brian); two grandchildren, Danielle and Keifer Gordon; brother, Frank (Jeanne); brother-in-law, Blaine (Faye) Byers, all of Dolores, Colo.; mother-in-law, Gertrude Henderson, Adel, Georgia; many nieces and nephews; and too many good friends to mention.

He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Brauna Lee; sister, Mary Ellen Byers; his wife and mother.

Respecting Dad's wishes, there will be a viewing on Thursday, February 8, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Graveside services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Utah Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association
