Darrell E. Hart, a noted facilities manager and leader in implementing total quality systems, has been named director of physical plant administration at Utah State University.
The appointment, effective March 1, was approved by the USU Board of Trustees. Hart replaces Paul R. Sampson, physical plant director from 1988 to 1995.Hart emerged from more than 130 candidates in a national search conducted by a committee headed by Al Moser, associate dean of the College of Engineering.
Hart was with the Procter & Gamble Co. in Memphis, Tenn. from 1979 to 1993, the last four years as facilities manager for seven manufacturing sites and a divisional headquarters. He was responsible for facilities, engineering and construction, budgets, contract administration, energy management and services.
Since 1993 he has been company facilities manager for the Buckeye Cellulose Corp. with job responsibilities similar to those at Procter & Gamble.
He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Wyoming and a master's in management from Troy State University.
Hart was a civil engineering officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-89, spending nine of those years in Europe and Southeast Asia.
At USU, Hart will direct the work of 250 full-time and 50 part-time employees - the largest number of workers in any campus department.
