Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Raymond Cottrell Bowers, 72, passed away early Saturday morning, March 9, 1996. We commend our mother, Elise Bowers, for her devoted tender care during his lingering illness.

Raymond was the second son of Alice Cottrell and Louis James Bowers, Sr., born November 12, 1923 in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High and the University of Utah where he studied banking and finance. He served in the Army during World War II. He married his sweetheart, Elise Terry, July 3, 1943 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple one year later. He served as a missionary in the Southern States Mission from 1948-1950.Raymond was the owner of City Lighting and General Partner Intermountain Holding Co. He was a land developer, building a number of commercial and residential buildings. He was an accomplished pianist. He loved to read, study the scriptures, and paint. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service included: member of 2 bishoprics, counselor in stake presidency and Canyon Rim Stake Mission President. He served as mission president with his family in the Alaska British Columbia mission from 1969-72. He also served in the Mission home presidency in Salt Lake City and in the Utah Mission. He served as stake patriarch for 18 years and a sealer in the Salt Lake Temple for 24 years.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elise, and eight children: Judith (James) Dykman; Scott (Mary Jean); Mark (Denise); Rebecca (Norman) Bryce; Paul (Jamie); Kevin (DeAnne); Terrie (Doug) Fisher; and Lori (Kent) Denney; and 25 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Louis James Bowers, Jr., and granddaughter, Michelle Bryce.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Health South Home Care; Georgette, Jody, Carol and Ann for their personalized care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, March 13, 1996 in the Valley View Stake Center, 2245 E. 3900 South. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and at the church one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
