When the Salt Lake County Planning Commission meets Tuesday, Taylorsville-Bennion city leader Bruce Wasden will add his two cents to the issues.
Wasden, appointed by the County Commission last week, is a city councilman in the newly incorporated city and will keep his seat as he joins the seven-member commission.Planning commissioners study zoning and development proposals submitted within the county and make recommendations to Salt Lake County's commissioners.
"My greatest interest is in protecting the rights of private property ownership," he said. He'll also vote to approve development that benefits an entire community, not just one neighborhood, developer or interest.
Wasden said he has specific concerns about the number of high-tech towers being placed throughout the county to transmit mobile and cellular phone calls and about the "proliferation of multifamily dwellings."
There is a place for apartments, he said, "But not in the middle of single-family neighborhoods."
As he begins his new post, he has resigned as chairman of the Taylorsville-Bennion Community Council.
