Juab County and Santaquin city may develop a fire agreement under which the city's fire department would help fight fires in the northern part of Juab County.

Gordon Young, Juab County Commission chairman, said the rate proposed by the city was actually less than the rates at which local fire departments were willing to fight fires so close to the Utah-Juab County line. "The agreement would actually save us money," he said. The several dozen homes at the Allred Ranch could use the assistance, commissioners agreed.

"They actually have their own fire department but would need help managing a major fire," said Commissioner Ike Lunt.

Young said he met with the Santaquin officials to discuss a bill the county had received from the community fire department when the state called on them to help fight a fire last summer at the Doc Steele Ranch.

Since the department was called out by the state, said Young, commissioners thought the state should be billed.

"It was while we were discussing last summer's fire that we discussed having a firefighting agreement with the fire department and Juab County."
