Riverton

During its March 5 meeting, the City Council:

The council awarded a $67,560 contract to RDJ Construction to cover the irrigation ditch near the Riverton Elementary School. Jordan School District has pledged to pay part of the improvement costs.

The panel also approved the contract with Smith Balle Hyatt Architects for the Riverton Community Center to be located in the old Riverton Elementary School.

Taylorsville-Bennion

During its March 8 meeting, the City Council:

- Appointed Glenn Graham as the city's new Community Development Director. Graham, who has 20 years of planning experience at Salt Lake County, beat out nine candidates for the job. He starts March 18, and will earn about $50,000 annually.

- Several new city employees took the oath of office for positions in Taylorsville-Bennion at the City Council meeting last week. Jerry Medina will be city recorder; Shane Pace, city administrator; Frank Admas, city treasurer and John Brems, city attorney.

Draper

During its March 5 meeting, the City Council:

- Approved a zoning change to allow for a 65-acre housing development, with approximately 100 lots, near 1600 East and 13200 South. The council approved the zone change on the condition that the developer, Draper Land Development Co., would include a two-acre park in the subdivision and donate it to the city.

- Gave the developers of South Mountain a conditional-use permit to build an 18-hole golf course on 247 acres at approximately 14300 S. 1100 East. Salt Lake County is negotiating to buy the course.

- Authorized the creation of a new staff position for a city planner, which will bring the total number of planners working under the director of community development to three.

- Approved a conditional use permit and final plat for 69 residential and four commercial lots at South Mountain, including the development's town center building.

Midvale

During its Feb. 27 meeting, the City Council:

- Approved a $200 contribution to help fund the city's Cinco de Mayo celebration in May.

- Decided to provide police escort for the St. Therese Catholic Church Good Friday March on April 5.

Sandy

During its Feb. 27 meeting, the City Council:

- Approved the rezoning of 9.5 acres from agriculture to residential, allowing homes to be built on lots as small as 8,000 square feet. The property is located off 300 East near 114000 South.

- Appointed Allan Walsh, a local attorney, to serve as an alternate on the Board of Adjustment.

- Accepted an annexation petition from the Waterford School, which wants to annex several acres south of its property near 9400 South and 1400 East.

- Canceled its March 12 meeting.

West Jordan

In its meeting last week, the City Council:

- Passed a resolution appointing 14 citizens and officials to be part of the Brownsfield Grant Steering Committee.

- Announced the city has received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to de-vel-op a master plan to begin clean up of the Brownsfield site.

- On March 5, The City Council postponed a vote that would have finalized annexation of 3,700 acres due to a protest to the Salt Lake County Boundary Commission filed by West Valley City. Instead, the council passed a resolution that confirmed they still intend to annex the property between 6200 and 8600 South and 4800 and 8200 West.

South Jordan

A number of residents and city officials will serve on the city's Long Range Planning Task Force, according to a resolution signed recently by the City Council.

Robert Baird, Ed Blaney, Glenda Gaudig, Leon Harlan, Glen Hawkins, Jeanne Jackman, Luanne Jensen, Robert McConnell, Lynn Ann Nunes, Eloise Sahlstrom and Merikay Thurber will join Councilman Thomas Christensen and Dennis Larkin and Jodi Ketelsen of the city's planning department.
