MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The BYU men's volleyball team faces its toughest test of the season this week, meeting UCLA and Hawaii, the nation's top two teams, on the road.

The second-ranked UCLA Bruins will host the Cougars tonight and Wednesday in Mountain States Sports Federation competition. Tonight's match will be broadcast live on national satellite radio from Pauley Pavilion.

Hawaii, ranked No. 1 in the nation, will be the Cougar opponent on Friday and Saturday with the Saturday game to be broadcast by KSL radio at 10 p.m. MST.

BYU is now 6-4 on the season and in 4th place in the Mountain Division of the MPSF.

Next Cougar home matches will be March 29 and 30 against CS- Northridge.

MEN'S TENNIS: BYU's men's tennis team defeated a scrappy Montana State University 5-2 in the last home match of the regular season this afternoon. The Cougars are now 7-5.

BYU's No. 1 player, Boris Bosnjakovic handed MSU's Filip Palasz his third loss of the season in a singles match that ended 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles competion, the Cougars won two of the three proset matches. BYU has won the doubles points in their last five matches. Bosnjakovic and Manuel Calvo combined to defeat MSU's Oliver Bernon and Zoltan Kovalevich 9-8 in the tie-breaker and

BYU's Jason Hardin and Kris Rosnader downed Reeder and Hanson 8-6.

BYU heads to Boise March 14-16 to compete in the Boise Tennis Classic. The eight-team tournament will be held outside.

MEN'S GOLF: Like water off a duck's back, the BYU golf team looks past its rainy, first and second round scores to Tuesday's hopeful improvements in the Shadow Hills Invitational golf tournament in Eugene, Ore.

BYU combined for a round-one 298 and improved in the second recording a 294.

Freshman Michael Henderson and senior Lonnie Damon are tied as team leaders with combined first and second round scores of 148. Dave Summerhays trails by one stroke with a score of 149. Senior Todd Pence struggled in Monday's rounds posting a combined 150 and Joe Summerhays trails all Cougar golfers with a score of 151.

BASEBALL: A three-game sweep over Grand Canyon University gives BYU baseball new life as it heads into a seven-game non-conference week.

BYU, 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference Eastern Division, plays at Cal-San Bernardino, 13-8, Wednesday at 3 p.m. MST. On Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m. MST, the Cougs play at Cal-Riverside, 17-4. And on Thursday through Saturday the Cougars will play at number one-ranked Cal-Fullerton, 18-2.

The top-ranked Titans host BYU at 8 p.m. MST on Thursday and Friday and at 2 p.m. MST on Saturday. Friday and Saturday's games against the defending NCAA champions will be broadcast live over KSRR Radio (1400 AM).

The probable pitchers will be Sky Grant (0-1, 15.43) today, Eric Boyer (1-2, 8.20) and Scott Tittrington (0-1, 13.50) on Wednesday, Jeff Dunning (0-1, 4.91) on Thursday, Scott Haws (4-0, 4.06) on Friday and perhaps Gatten again on Saturday.
