Rodeo grounds and three buildings comprise the just-released master plan for Utah Valley State College's West Campus. The 25-acre site is west of I-15 across from the main campus at about 800 South.

Residents will get a chance to view the plans for future construction Tuesday at a public meeting scheduled in UVSC's Ragen Theater at 7 p.m.Construction of the first building, the 50,000-square-foot Mountainland Applied Technology Center, will start once all approvals are made. The $6 million building will be paid for out of funds realized from the approximately $3.5 million sale of the UVSC Provo campus and from some $4 million originally set aside by the Legislature to purchase the Signetics building on 800 East in Orem, according to Gil Cook, vice president of college relations. The latter purchase fell through.

UVSC took about $1 million of that money and bought the Aviation Technology Center at the Provo Airport, which houses the state fire academy and will also house programs to train truckers, small engine repair classes and a flight school, Cook said.

Construction on the MATC may begin this fall. Other campus construction is on hold, possibly for eight more years, unless other financing arrangements can be made. Cook said state officials are earmarking about $20 million a year for campus construction throughout Utah, which would provide UVSC one new building (during that time), "unless we can get the formula changed based on need."

Consultants with Fehr & Peers Associates Inc. are also looking at how to link the two campuses in a long-range roadway plan for the institution, Peterson said.
