Our beloved Miguel Francisco Merino Alvarado passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City on March 10, 1996.

Born in Piura, Peru on July 17, 1908 to Francisco Merino and Dolores Alvarado. Married Alicia Monge in 1931 in Pampas, Peru. Alicia passed away after 60 years of marriage. He later married Freda Gibson Horne on January 3, 1994 in Salt Lake City.Miguel retired from the Bank of the Nation in Lima, Peru after a long career. He loved life, music, stamp collecting, and dancing with his sweetheart. He was a perfect gentleman and a man of culture.

He is survived by wife, Freda, Salt Lake City; sisters, Rosa and Lily, children: Dolores (Fernando) Cardoza, Liliana (Jorge) Chavez, Lucila (Samuel) Gayoso and Antonia Merino, all of Lima, Peru; Eduardo (Betty) Merino, Costa Rica; Susie (Steven) Jensen, Bogota, Columbia; Ricardo (Liliana) Merino, and Marta Merino, Salt Lake City; stepchildren, Joyce Horne, John Horne, Bruce (Ruth) Horne, Cathy (Dean) Hatch, Carma (David) Rogers, Gary (April) Horne, Allen (Hilsia) Horne, and Carl Anderson. His combined family gave him 55 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff in the Thoracic ICU at LDS Hospital for their loving care of our Miguel.

In lieu of flowers, donate to the Deseret Foundation at LDS Hospital in his name.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Neil O'Donnell Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call Wednesday 6-7 p.m. with Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. and one hour prior on Thursday. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Broomhead Funeral Home.
