The Deseret News sports department cannot receive or make phone calls on two of its lines, 237-2161 or 237-2162, because of problems with cables carrying telephone lines.
And the newspaper's library can't receive or make phone calls for the same reason.Telephone calls to the sports department can still be received on three lines, 237-2163, 237-2164 or 237-2165. Calls to the library are being handled temporarily at another Deseret News number, 237-2171.
Difficulties with the library and sports telephone lines have persisted since Feb. 28. US WEST has been called to correct the problems, said David Croft, Deseret News systems manager.
"We apologize for the inconvenience the public has experienced in trying to reach the library and sports departments. We hope to have the problems corrected soon," said Deseret News Managing Editor Don Woodward.
Meanwhile, callers may contact their local library. Some libraries have back issues of the newspaper, said Deseret News librarian Colleen Randall. Many libraries have access to the Deseret News World Wide Web site. Individuals with Internet access can obtain information printed in the Deseret News on the Web (http://www.desnews.com).
