Richare Keith Gottschall, our beloved father and grandfather, slipped away peacefully in his sleep March 9, 1996.

An avid, competitive golfer, he was still chipping in from off the green the last year of his life. A noted wag-and self-described curmudgeon-he was every hostess's dream, entertaining all with his great wit and charm. As a family man, he was a loving but firm teacher of values, aesthetics and good grammar.Born October 27, 1916 in Overland Park, Kansas, to Lester Keith and Pearl Campbell Gottschall. He grew up in Salt Lake City with his older brother, Herbert. Upon graduation from East High School, he attained a Journalism degree from the University of Missouri, returning to Salt Lake to report for the Salt Lake Tribune. He served as an Army captain in World War II with the 1st Armored Division, leading men into battle at Anzio. In 1946, he married Gaell Moss and settled in San Diego to raise a family.

After several years as a reporter and editor at the San Diego Union, he went into corporate public relations for Convair/General Dynamics and in 1971, retired from Standard Kollsman Industries in New York as VP and assistant to the President. Returning to Salt Lake, he took over the family business, Gottschall Printing & Engraving, retiring in 1993. He is past president of the Printing Industries of Utah.

Preceded in death by his dear wife, Gaell;

Survived by his daughter, Leslie Rae Gottschall Olsson of Irving, Texas; his sons, Mark Scott of Murray; and Grant Erik of Los Angeles, Calif.; his nephew, John Howard of Salt Lake City; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 13th, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East, Murray.
