The medical industrial complex (the host of profiteers in medical care aside from medicine itself, e.g. drug companies, nursing homes, insurance companies, health maintenance organizations, clinics for weight loss, exercise clinics, the list goes on and on) is pleased with anything that will delay health-care reform. In fact, as special-interest groups, they expect delays because delay allows each group to maintain its huge profits at the expense of the rest of us.
As they prosper and become stronger, members of the medical industrial complex are creating gigantic corporations with the influence to virtually dictate to the government. They could create a new medical-care system that would be medical care based entirely on the corporative profit motive, e.g. managed care.Forget the unfortunates who cannot pay their way. The GOP has already demonstrated a lack of conscience for children, the poor, the elderly, the homeless and those with complicated medical afflictions. Unfortunately, this attitude is endorsed by too many Americans who continue to vote GOP candidates into office. The GOP presidential candidates are singularly silent on needed medical reform. Everyone knows the silence is due to the special interests involved in the medical industrial complex and their monies backing all of these candidates.
A better question could be put to the originators of the Contract With America. You promised health-care reform. Where is it?
