The two men accused of trying to kill three Arby's Restaurant employees during a robbery in January both pleaded not guilty to the crime in 3rd District Court Monday morning.
Attorneys for both men, who are also father and son, told Judge Leslie Lewis they'd be filing motions to have the men stand trial separately. District Attorney Neal Gunnarson said his office will fight that request for a number of reasons including that it would be more cost effective to try them together.Lewis scheduled a hearing on the request for separate trials for April 26. If the motion is denied, both men will stand trial at the same hearing, which was scheduled for Aug. 5.
Richard D. Lawrimore, 18, and Richard L. Lawrimore, 36, were arrested Jan. 9 and charged with three counts of attempted criminal homicide and two counts of aggravated robbery.
During a late-night robbery, two men forced their way into the Arby's Restaurant in Holladay. They repeatedly stabbed and shot the only male employee working, and slashed the throats of the two female employees. All of the Arby's workers survived their injuries.
