An ex-prostitute and former movie motorcycle stuntwoman filed for one of Nevada's two congressional seats Monday, saying she is qualified because of the variety of her life experiences.
Jessi Winchester, who gave up prostitution last March about the time fellow residents named her "Mrs. Virginia City," says prostitution issues are not the focus of her political campaign.Winchester said she wants to push for legislation to help women get meaningful jobs and better pay, strengthen fair labor laws, and help small businesses get started. She also wants to stop illegal immigration, repeal taxes on social security benefits, and reform Medicare and Medicaid.
The 53-year-old grandmother is competing against two other Democrats and three Republicans for the House seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Barbara Vucanovich.
"I've had a lot of different life experiences that definitely qualify me for understanding the average person," Winchester said.
