Bessie and Doris Gonzales, the conjoined twins from Honduras, were to undergo their second operation Tuesday in a series of procedures that are expected to separate them.

The girls were born about five months ago to Doris Isabel Gonzales Quiroz, 25, a resident of Comayaguela, Honduras. Joined at the tops of their heads, the girls had their first operation March 5 at Primary Children's Medical Center, 100 N. Medical Drive.Neurosurgeon Marion Walker may be able to complete Tuesday's operation by noon, but it could take longer, said Bonnie Midget, spokeswoman for Primary Children's Medical Center. Physicians are donating their time, and the hospital's charities are picking up hospital costs for the operations.
