A professor of American history at Brigham Young University will give the annual Russel B. Swensen Lecture Thursday, March 14, at 11 a.m. in the Wilkinson Center Varsity Theater.

The title of Thomas G. Alexander's speech is "The Great Depression, World War II and the Transformation of Utah from a Colony of Wall Street to a Colony of Washington."The lecture is free and the public is welcome.

"From the experience of the Great Depression and World War II, Utah's economy changed radically. It began to rise and fall to the tune of Defense Department appropriations," Alexander said. "Instead of a colony of Wall Street, Utah became a colony of Washington, a condition in which it remained until quite recently."
