Charlie Washington Yates, of Grand Junction, and formerly of Salt Lake City, died of natural causes on March 10, 1996, in Grand Junction.

He was born on October 10, 1906, in Neligh, Antelope County, Nebraska, to Charles Washington Yates and Ella Naoma Bare. He married Wilma Lea Watson Piele Yates, who died in 1967.He is survived by his son, Leslie C. Yates, of Grand Junction; and his daughter, W. Adele Yates, of Redondo Beach, California; as well as his nieces and nephews, and his stepchildren, Barbara McGinnis (Otto) and Gerald Piele and their families.

Charlie was a retired employee of Kennecott Copper, where he worked for 371/2 years. Before that he was a farmer and rancher on Wilson Mesa in Colorado, and a hard-rock miner in the mines around Silverton and Telluride, Colorado.

Charlie was a man of great natural ability, strength and good will. He knew many interesting stories of people and events in Southwestern Colorado. He was a faithful husband and father, and was held in highest esteem and love by his family and many friends.
