The parents of the middle school students in the Jordan School District need to be aware of circumstances within the district that may adversely affect their children.

Due to the unprecedented growth in the Riverton-Bluffdale area, the southwest quadrant of the district desperately needs another middle school. Oquirrh Hills Middle School is dangerously overcrowded. The capacity of the school is set at 1,400 students, and already exceeds that limit at 1,761 and next year is expected to top 2,000.According to officials, the needed middle school cannot be built until another bond is approved by the residents of the district. In order to assure that a bond is approved, it is necessary for all the other middle schools to "feel our pain." As a result, plans are under way to help you all "feel our pain."

You are probably not aware that at this time plans are being made to change the boundaries of the middle schools in the Jordan School District so that student populations will be shifted to other schools. Our children will be coming to your schools and your children will then be overcrowded or bused to another school. We would prefer to keep our children in our own community and assume you would also.

The whole problem of middle school overcrowding and boundary changes can be resolved by building a greatly needed middle school. The support of all the residents in the district is needed and I would ask that you all vote for the bond that will hopefully be forthcoming, and in the meantime call the Jordan District officials and encourage them to build the new middle school in the southwest quadrant immediately.
