George Baugh Everton, Sr., 91, Logan, died Tuesday, March 11, 1996 at Sunshine Terrace.
He was born September 9, 1904 in Logan, Utah, the second eldest of ten children born to Walter Marion and Laura Pearl Knowles Everton. He married Ellen Rose Nielsen, November 19, 1924 in the Logan LDS Temple. They spent most of their married life in Logan, however, after their second LDS mission, they moved to Salt Lake City for a few years before returning to Cache Valley, where they made their home in Nibley.George was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including bishop, temple officiator and sealer in the Logan, Salt Lake, England (London), and the New Zealand Temples. He and his wife Ellen served LDS missions in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Israel. His latest missionary contribution was a pamphlet "Our Testimonies: And Some Evidences Concerning the Book of Mormon", which has been translated into several languages, and is used by missionaries around the world. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver Award for his Scouting contributions. He was proud of his heritage and enjoyed his membership in the Mormon Battalion and the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
Long-time merchant in Logan. He opened an office machine shop in 1934. In 1952, he succeeded his father as president of Everton Publishers. He and Ellen conducted Family History Workshops throughout the country, even after retiring in 1967. Two years after his wife's death, he married Abigail Condie Dickison, of Modesto, Calif. and a native of Cache Valley.
Survivors are a son, George Baugh, Jr. (Louise), Providence; two daughters, Mrs. James (Jean) Mobley, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. E.D. (Carol) Wygant, Coleman, Florida; 16 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Joseph; sisters, Laura (George) Wagstaff, Bessie Lambert, Ella (Harry) Merrill, Ruth (Gus) Gold, Edna (Bob) Mauer, and Naomi (R.W.) Christensen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Rose Nielsen, and his 2nd wife, Abigail Condie Dickison, two brothers, Walace and Marion and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 1996 at 1 p.m. in the Nibley 1st Ward Chapel, 360 West 3200 South, Nibley, with Bishop Vaughan P. Griggs conducting. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
