Rescuers hook up tow line to a truck in the rain-swollen Ballona Creek in Los Angeles Tuesday. Although no one was found inside the truck, a man was plucked from his truck in the Los Angeles River by a helicopter. As the copter hovered under electrical lines, a rescuer was dropped by cable Tuesday to pluck Manuel Al-dana from the hood of his gravel hauler. It was the climax of a rainy day that sent funnel clouds through the Central Valley and littered Southern California freeways with wrecked cars.
