The Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce's newly formed Transportation Committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, March 19, with a goal of making recommendations on how to solve the transportation problems along the Wasatch Front.

It will be held on the 16th floor of the US WEST Communications Building at 250 E. 200 South, with Mark Stromberg, vice president of US WEST, serving as chairman.Arlen Crouch, chairman of the chamber's board of governors, said there is nothing more important to the business community than a good transportation system.

He said there are strong opposite views regarding transportation and the chamber could lose some members or gain some depending on which action the board decides to support. There is no time frame when the committee should submit its recommendations to the board.

Committee members are H. David Burton, presiding bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Robert Dimock, president of Kennecott Utah Copper Corp.; Robert Farrington, executive director of the Downtown Alliance; Ken Knight, vice chairman of Sinclair Oil; and Scott Nelson, president and chief executive officer of First Security Bank of Utah.
