Hogle Zoo docent training classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, and continue each Saturday through May 18.
Zoo officials say the volunteer work should appeal to those interested in all types of animals, from those that slither, creep or crawl to others that fly, flap or flutter.Docents volunteer to help the public learn about everything from the most delicate of butterflies to the grizzliest of bears and communicate about important issues such as conservation, ecology and preservation of natural resources.
Opportunities include work as interpreters, in Butterfly World, the Discovery Center, community outreach and the daily care and feeding of animals in the docent animal facility. Docents also introduce animals to children in schools, hospitals, civic centers and other places.
